Donas Eugene ‘Gene’ Campbell, 87, of Westphalia, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at his home. He was born in Bicknell, Indiana on July 2, 1931 to Cecil William and Ruby Mae (Clark) Campbell. He married his loving wife, Mary (Due) Campbell on June 5, 1954.
Gene was a US Army Veteran. He was a member of the Salem United Church of Christ, the French Club of Bicknell and Elnora American Legion Post 245. Gene had a barber shop in Freelandville for many years, then later cut hair out of his shop at home in Westphalia. Gene was retired from Weapons Production at Crane Naval Weapons Support Center.
Family left behind to cherish Gene’s memory are: his wife, Mary Campbell; two daughters, Nancy (John) Landon and Sara (Ed) Cooper, both of Westphalia; grandchildren, Laura Jones, Russell Cooper, Amanda Smith and Taylor Hagen; several nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by: his parents; one daughter, Kelli Hagen; one sister, Lois Beaver; five brothers, Lee, Dennis, Charles, Jim and Bill Campbell.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Friday, January 18, 2019 at Salem United Church of Christ in Westphalia with Pastor Bryan Taylor officiating. Gene will be laid to rest in Salem Cemetery following military graveside rites by the Odon VFW Post #9627 and Elnora American Legion Post #245.
Family and friends may call from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM on Friday at the church.
