Fred E. Gaither

Fred E. Gaither, 77 of Sandborn, IN, passed away at his residence on Saturday, October 11, 2014.  He was born on November 22, 1936, in Daviess County, IN, to John L. and Dorothy M. (McCrary) Stegemoller.  Fred married Caroline S. (Hastings) on June 5, 1970.

Fred served 4 years in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.  Upon returning home, he worked as an Electronic Engineer at NWSC Crane, retiring in 1995, after 28 years of service. He was a member of the Sandborn Christian Church and the Sandborn Lions Club.  He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren, especially attending their sporting events.

Survivors include: his wife, Caroline S. Gaither; two daughters, Catherine Marie Gaither of Colorado and Amie Diane Cross of Sandborn; his mother, Dorothy M. Stegemoller of Linton; five grandchildren: Chris, Beth, Tyler, Megan and Andrew; and a step-sister, JoAnn Myers of Carmel.

Fred was preceded in death by his father and a son, Fred E. Gaither, Jr.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM on Tuesday, October 14th at the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel with Rev. Tom Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in the Sandborn Cemetery in Sandborn, IN, with Military Graveside Rites.

Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, October 13, 2014, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Tuesday, October 14th, from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM.
