Michael Syester

Michael R. ‘Mike’ Syester, 59, of Linton, IN, passed from this life, on Saturday, December 9, 2017, in Terre Haute, IN.  He was born in Sullivan, IN, on January 13, 1958, to Joe E. and Roberta J. (Rodgers) Syester.  Mike married his soulmate, Joyce A. (Faulds) Syester, on September 9, 1978.

Mike worked in various fields and enjoyed many hobbies but his true calling was spending the Christmas season as Santa Claus.  He was passionate about bringing joy to others while spreading the Christmas spirit and especially enjoyed working with special needs children.  When he wasn’t on duty as Santa, Mike spent time bicycling and taking exquisite photos.  He was a member of the Providence Baptist Church and loved spending time goofing off with his family, especially his grandchildren. 

Survivors include: his mother, Roberta Syester of Terre Haute; his wife Joyce Syester; two sons, Rhyan (Amber) Syester of  Ft. Campbell, KY, and Joseph (Samantha) Syester of Farmersburg, IN; four grandchildren, Zachary, Emma, Andrew and Holly Syester; a sister, Candice (Steve) Mahurin of Farmersburg, IN; and a brother, Brian Syester of Greenwood, IN. He was a father and grandfather figure to many others.

Mike was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, Dennis and David Syester.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 AM on Thursday, December 14, 2017, at the  Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton with Pastor Darren McDonald officiating.  Mike will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery in Linton.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at the funeral home, and continue on Thursday, December 14th from 9:00 AM until the hour of service at 10:30 AM.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Riley Children’s Hospital in honor of Mike’s little buddy, Colton Murray.
