Bessie M. Mathena

Bessie M. ‘Betty’ Mathena, 78 of Sullivan, Indiana, passed away peacefully, with her loved ones at her side, on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at Regional Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana. She was born on June 21, 1941 in Bloomfield, Indiana to John M. and Hattie E. (Williams) Pearson. Betty married Jerry L. Mathena on September 16, 1959.

Betty worked as secretary/bookkeeper for Telesis Cable TV and was a homemaker who loved taking care of her home and family. She enjoyed berry picking, singing, reading and most recently playing BINGO.

Family left to cherish the memory of Betty includes: three daughters, Rhonda A. (Tim) Carnes of Linton, Kelly L. (Cary) Snyder of Sullivan and Tracy J. Lennings of Jasonville;

Daughter-in-law, Bobbie J. (Brock) Osborne of Bloomington; eleven grandchildren, Luke Jerrell, Dusty Jerrell, Chance Schubla, Jesse McCammon, Shea Rose, Mickala Ficklin, Randi Waggoner, Shiann Hobbs, Ethan Mathena, Bailee Mathena and Allister Osborne; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Linda Collier of Bloomington; two brothers, Wayne Pearson of Indianapolis and Benny Pearson of Bloomfield.

Betty was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Jerry Mathena; one daughter, Lorrie Ann Mathena; one son, Jerry Shane Mathena, five brothers and seven sisters.

A funeral service honoring the life of Betty will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 25, 2019 at Meng Family Funeral Homes, Anderson-Poindexter Chapel in Linton with Jesse McCammon officiating. Betty will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery in Linton.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Sunday, November 24 and from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM on Monday at the funeral home.
