John Gentry Obituary

John L. “Jack” Gentry, 83, of Bloomington, IN, passed from this life to his eternal life on, August 29th at Garden Villa in Bloomington.  He was born on April 24, 1936 in Sullivan County, IN to William L. and Ruth (Pierson) Gentry.  He was married to his loving wife of 32 years, Marilyn (Clark) Gentry on January 4, 1987. 

Jack served in the U.S. Air Force.  He later worked for General Electric as a Specialist in Shipping/Scheduling.  He retired in 1985.  Jack was a member of Grace Baptist Temple in Bloomington, IN.  Jack was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Family left to cherish Jack’s memory include:  his wife, Marilyn; a daughter, Laura (Mike) Hudson of Akron, Ohio; a son, David (Jennifer) Gentry of Bloomington; stepchildren: Mike (Rhonda) Bradburn of Pittsboro, Brenda (Scott) Bradburn of Greenwood, Chris (Lisa) Leeper of Oklahoma, James (Robyn) Leeper of California, Penny (Dennis) Klepper of Ft. Wayne:  18 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; a brother: Robert ‘Bob’ (Mary) Gentry of Columbus and a sister, Dorothy Stremming of Westphalia.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ruth Gentry; three sisters: Catherine L Clifford, Marjorie H. Bell and Miriam “Ede” Byers; three brothers: Garland R. Gentry, Cecil L. Gentry, and William L ‘Bill’ Gentry, Jr.

A funeral service honoring Jack’s life will be at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at Grace Baptist Temple, 2320 N. Smith Pike, Bloomington, IN with Pastor Jeremy Vance and Pastor James Barr officiating.  Jack will be laid to rest at White Oak Cemetery, Bloomington, IN following military graveside rites by the Air Force Honor Guard, American Legion Post #18 and VFW Post #604.

Family and friends may call from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at the church.
