Obituary

Barbara Jane "Barb" Briggs, 92, a devoted and loyal friend known for her adventurous spirit and dedication to her work, passed away peacefully with close friends by her side in Carmel, Indiana, on Thursday, October 30, 2025.

Born on July 20, 1933, in Syracuse, New York, Barb moved to Linton, Indiana, at the age of one, where she was raised and lived until graduating from Linton-Stockton High School in 1950. She then enrolled at Stephen's College for one year, after which she attended Indiana University (IU), earning a degree in Office Management, which launched her professional career.

Barb dedicated her professional life to service and excellence. She spent 11 and a half years working for the Ice Miller law firm before transitioning to a long and distinguished career with the federal court. For 36 years, she served as an Executive Assistant to Federal District Court Judge Dillin. Barb's organizational skills and unwavering commitment were essential in supporting Judge Dillin through his most significant cases, including the landmark Indianapolis Public Schools desegregation rulings, which shaped the city's history.

Outside of her professional life, Barb had an immense passion for travel. She explored Europe and Scandinavia, with Ireland and Florence, Italy, holding special places in her heart. She maintained deep and lasting friendships with her closest and dearest friends: Kecia Nalls, Anne Perry, Anne Williams, Pat Martz, Carol Clements, and Kathy & Carolea Walters.

Barb is survived by Carolyn Buchmann and her children, Caron and Craig (Jana); Elisa Blocker and her son; and Kurt Robertson.

She was preceded in death by her father, Victor Briggs; her mother, Millie Hamilton Briggs; her beloved Auntie Helen (her father's sister); her Aunt Mary (Millie's sister, one of "the Hamilton girls"); Carolyn's husband, Carl; and her first cousin, Sue and Kause Robertson.

There will be a gathering of family and friends at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at Fairview Cemetery in Linton, where she will be reunited with her family at a local plot.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to WFYI or WIPB, or to any animal rescue organization of your choice, reflecting her love for animals and public broadcasting.

Arrangements and care have been entrusted to Meng Family Funeral Homes, Anderson-Poindexter Chapel in Linton.  Condolences and memories may be sent to the family online at www.andersonpoindexter.com.
