IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barbara J.
Clayton
March 24, 1928 – February 7, 2016
Barbara Jean Bolton Clayton, 87, a life-long resident of Jasonville, died peacefully Sunday evening, February 7, 2016 after a brief illness. Barbara was born March 24, 1928 in Jasonville, Indiana to George Henry and Fern Lucille Bickel Bolton; they preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, David Arthur Clayton, whom she married August 28, 1954; and her siblings, Marilyn Joyce Bolton and Philip Cameron Bolton.
Barbara is survived by her son Jerrit Clayton and his wife, Melinda, of Zionsville, IN; her grandson, David Andrew "Andy" Clayton and his wife, Sheri, of Plainfield, IN; her great-grandchildren, David Jerrit and Bailey Suzanne; her brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Mae Nocus of Bloomfield, IN; her brother in law, Jim Clayton of Indianapolis; her dear friend, Dorothy Eccles; and her beloved dog, Zelda.
Barbara will be fondly remembered as a gentle, no non-sense, strong-willed soul who loved her family, friends, and community. She was incredibly proud of her Greene County roots and spent tireless hours researching her family history and compiling records so that future generations of her family would have a connection to it. Additionally, much of her time was devoted to caring for others through numerous acts of kindness such of sending a cards on special occasions, illness, or sympathy, visiting a shut-in, lunches with her friends, giving of her time as a member of Friends of the Library, representing the Jasonville Historical Society, the VFW Post 6606 in Clay City, or simply praying for those in need.
Even in recent years as her body began to fail, and the inconvenience of aging tried to slow her down, her mind and "can do" attitude continued to drive her every day. Ever the resolute independent and "social butterfly", she proudly found a way to remain active and in her home until her last days which was of the utmost importance to her. Her faith was strong and her love of Jesus never ending. She firmly believed his love and God's grace would sustain her. In recent years, Grandma's faith led her to enjoy membership at Shakamak Community Church in Jasonville. She loved her church family and was so proud of the great work this little church did.
As her family we wish to thank all that made her life so rich; neighbors, friends, the community of Jasonville, and her church family. There honestly are too many to list, however while she was looking out, worrying, and praying for many of you, we knew the same love and kindness was being returned. As her family, we are grateful beyond words for the love and kindness you all extended Grandma. Know that her spirit was nourished by your care, concern, and friendship.
Grandma's life was not free of heart ache, tough times, or challenges but it was well-lived with a legacy that is rich, strong, and one to be proud of. She loved people and people loved her. Grandma will be forever loved and missed by all who knew her.
