Cecil Lowell Gentry, 86, of Sandborn, IN, passed away Thursday, November 27, 2008, at his residence in Sandborn. He was born on September 6, 1922, in Taconite, Minnesota to William L. and Ruth (Pierson) Gentry. On June 7, 1947, Lowell married Lorene F. (Stremming) and they had 2 sons.
Lowell served in the US Navy during WWII and the Korean War. He was an electrician and motor winder by trade, working for Crane Weapons Support Center, retiring in 1980. Lowell was a member of the Salem United Church of Christ in Westphalia where he had served on the church board on several different occasions.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years Lorene F. Gentry of Sandborn, sons, Terry C. (Veronica) Gentry, Jeffrey J. (Dolly) both of Linton, grandchildren; Meagan Gentry of Linton and James Gentry of Sandborn, nine step-grandchildren, four step-great grandchildren. Lowell is also survived by four brothers; Garland R. Gentry of Washington, Robert E. Gentry of Columbus, John L. (Jack) Gentry of Bloomington, William L. Gentry, Jr. of Linton, two sisters; Miriam Byers of Evansville and Dorothy Stremming of Westphalia.
Lowell was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters; Lillian Clifford and Marjorie Bell.
The family has requested memorial contributions to be made to the Salem United Church of Christ and the Good Samaritan Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the church.
Friends may call at Salem United of Christ in Westphalia 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM, Sunday, November 30, 2008 and from 9:00 AM until the hour of service on Monday, December 1, 2008. The funeral service will begin at 10:00 AM with Rev. Ken Kramer officiating, burial to follow in the Salem United Church of Christ cemetery with full Military Rites being given by the All Weather Firing Squad of Vincennes.
