Charles Lee Johanningsmeier, 78, of Oaktown, passed away peacefully with his loved ones by his side on Thursday, January 8th, 2015 at St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. He was born on January 29th, 1936 in Bicknell, Indiana to William H. and Emma L. (Kloke) Johanningsmeier. Charles took Evaline M. Clark to be his wife on June 18th, 1955.
Charles was confirmed at Salem UCC where he also served as a youth leader for several years and later became a member of Bethel Church in Freelandville. He worked as a farmer and carpenter before retiring in 2011. Charles enjoyed wood working, family events and in later years watching his grandchildren show their 4-H animals, having been a 10 year 4-H member and 4-H leader for several years himself. He was an avid supporter of school and church events.
Charles is survived by: his wife, Evaline M. Johanningsmeier; one son, Michael (Jean) Johanningsmeier of Oaktown; two daughters, Rita Sue (Jim) Wilson of Odon and Linda (Kevin) Hammelman of Edwardsport; seven grandchildren, Holly Marie (Brandon) Spanger, Justin and Jared Johanningsmeier, Clint and Cari Jo Wilson, Jerry Lee (Kate) Hammelman and Josh (Bethany) Hammelman; six great-grandchildren and one sister, Opal Jane Alexander of Dugger.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Eugene Johanningsmeier.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 13th, 2015 at Bethel Church in Freelandville with Pastor Mike Decoursey and Rev. Bryan Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in Salem UCC Cemetery in Westphalia.
Family and friends may call at the church from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, January 12th and from 10:00 AM until the hour of service at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 13th.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Bethel Church or Salem United Church of Christ in memory of Charles. Envelopes will be available at the church.
The family has entrusted all arrangements to James W. Meng, Jr. and the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonpoindexter.com.
