Obituary

Charles B. Rogers, 78, of Linton, Indiana, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 30, 2011, at the Sullivan County Community Hospital. He was born in Jasonville, Indiana on August 1, 1932, to Miles L. and Edith (Clayton) Rogers. On February 6, 1984, Charles married Ruby Jean Hayes.

Charles worked as a Union laborer for over twenty-five years before his retirement in 1994. Charlie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was also a gifted gardener, farmer and received regional recognition and awards for his ability to cultivate plants and flowers. He touched many lives with his tender heart and generosity. For decades to come people all over the Wabash valley will remember Charlie when their own gardens bloom each spring with flowers of his loving labor.

He is survived by his wife, Jean; son, Charles "Chuckie" Rogers of Linton; stepson, Steve Steele of Bloomington; stepdaughter, Roberta "Bertie" (Carlton) Wilson of Robinson, IL; 10 grandchildren, Karri Chambers, Christopher Edwards, Carri, Carl, Malokia, Joshua, Elijah, Hendrix, Fiersen and Sephen; He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren, Whitney, Delaney, Zackary, Liberty, Stephen, Caitlyn, Fiona, Jackson, Annabell, Dodge and great great grandchildren, Izzabella, Mytchil and Rowen; sisters, Alona (Howard) VanDeventer of Linton, Phyllis Pittman of Linton; brothers, Eric L. (Patricia) Rogers of Linton, Jack S. (Denean) Rogers of Linton and Miles E. Rogers also of Linton; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Gloria Jean Edwards; two sisters, Lenora Rogers and Betty Bland and one brother, Robert L. Rogers.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, August 3, at the Anderson-Poindexter Funeral Home in Linton. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday and from 9:00 am until time of service on Wednesday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.

The family has entrusted Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton, Indiana with all arrangements.
