Charles W. 'Bill" Wilkes, 79, of Linton, passed away on June 16, 2013 surrounded by his family at the Greene County General Hospital in Linton. He was born on April 25, 1934 in Sullivan County, Indiana to Edward and Madge (Hurst) Wilkes. He married Thelma Ruth Keene on April 1, 1960.
Bill was a US Army veteran. He was a member of the Dugger First Baptist Church, Dugger Masonic Lodge #721 F & AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, Zorah Shrine Terre Haute, Sullivan and Greene Co. Shrine, American Legion Post #22 and VFW Post #7118. Bill retired in 1997 with 38 years of service as a superintendent with Rogers Group.
He is survived by: his wife, Thelma; two sons, Bill (Karen) Wilkes and Chuck (Jill) Wilkes, both of Linton; one daughter, Tammy (Jeff) Suthard of Linton; six grandchildren, Clint (Brandy) Wilkes, Rich (Dyan) Wilkes, Justin (Jacqi) Suthard, Jennifer Suthard, Trent and Madison Wilkes; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Wilkes of Linton, Ed (Brenda) Wilkes of Dugger; one sister, Sara
(Harold) Chaney of Dugger and several nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by: his parents and grandson, Quinton Charles Wilkes.
Funeral Services will be held at the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at 11:00 AM with Pastor David Tyra officiating. Friends may call the funeral home on Tuesday, June 18, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and from 9:00 AM until the time of service on Wednesday. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Linton with full military honors.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be made in memory of Bill to the Shriner's Hospitals for Children. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
