David L. Garwood, 79, of Linton, IN, passed away at his home on Monday, January 6, 2014. He lost his battle with cancer having his wife of 56 years by his side. He was born on November 24, 1934 in Terre Haute, Indiana to Judge G. and Margaret (Carty) Garwood. David married his loving wife, Mary Elaine Ritter, on September 22, 1957.
David was a veteran with over 20 years of military service in the US Air Force, serving during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a member of the Olive Branch Baptist Church and the American Legion Post #22. David retired from the NAD Crane Naval Base, where he worked for 20 years. His hobbies were horseback riding, fishing, book reading and spending time with his family.
He is survived by: his wife, Mary Elaine (Ritter) Garwood; one son, Brian (Edna) Garwood of Linton; one daughter, Kendra (Bob) Hesseltine of Clements, CA; grandchildren, Jacob (Nikki) Garwood, Miranda (Tim) Yingling; great-grandchildren, Layla, Alexis, Sierra & Audelia Garwood and Jazzalyn Yingling; step-grandchildren, Stacy Stremming, Jessie, Michael and Jody Lewis; step-great-grandchildren, Allie Lacer, Zavery Erin, Michael Stremming, Zayden Deleau and Colby Lewis; step-great-great-granddaughter, Effie Stremming; sister, Alice (Jay) Doty of Bedford; two nieces and their children.
Preceding him in death were: his parents; grandson, Benjamin Garwood and one brother, Millard Garwood.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 10, 2014 at the Anderson- Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton with Pastor Dan Kemp and Pastor Myron Young officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Linton with full military honors.
Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday and on Friday from 9:00 AM until the hour of service.
The family has entrusted all arrangements to the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton.
