Donald L. Blanton, 73, of Switz City, Indiana, passed away Sunday, April 05, 2009, at Greene County General Hospital. He was born September 26, 1935, to Frank and Mary Ellen (Pruett) Blanton. On May 26, 1967, he married Roma A. (Hobbs).

Don was a member of the Switz City Christian Church, Worthington American Legion Post #106, VFW Post #7117, Greene Co. Econ. Development Committee, Southern IN Development Commission, Greene Co. 2-1-1 Core, Greene Co. Chamber Coalition. He also loved to fish. He was employed with Indiana Department of Transportation as a mechanic. He was a veteran serving with the US Army. Don was President of the Switz City Town Board for the past 20 years and served on the board since 1982.

Survivors include his wife, Roma A. Blanton, daughter, Kelly J. (Brad) Zimmerly of Switz City; sons, Rick J. Blanton of Switz City, Chris L. Blanton of Linton and Andy F. Blanton of Loogootee, nine grandchildren, Brandt (Clarissa), Tyler and fiance Samantha Hubell, Katryna Zimmerly, Kristin, Taylor, Summer, Andrea and Tre' Blanton. Also surviving is a sister, Rita K. (Dave) Daugherty of Cleveland, TX. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and special niece and buddy Trisha Blanton

Don was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Lloyd K. Blanton. The family has requested memorial contributions to be made to the funeral home in memory of Don.

Friends may call at Linton First Christian Church from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Wednesday, April 08, 2009 and from 9:00 AM until the hour of service on Thursday. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM, Thursday, with Chris Gehring officiating. Interment will follow at the Walker Cemetery in Worthington, IN, with full Military Rites given by The American Legion Post #106 and The VFW Post #7117. The Blanton Family has entrusted these arrangements with the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton.
