Doris L. Long, 99, of Odon, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 5, 2015 surrounded by her loving family at the Daviess Community Hospital in Washington, Indiana. She was born on April 9, 1915 in Martin County, Indiana to William Edward 'Eddie' and Ella (Williams) Swayze. Doris became the wife of Joseph Harden Long on February 20, 1932.
Doris was a member of the Odon First Christian Church and the White River Valley Antique Association. She devoted her life to being a homemaker, wife and mother. Doris enjoyed flower gardening, quilting and baking.
Survivors of Doris include: five daughters, Norma (Bill) Kinnaman of Washington, Marjorie (Melvin) Armstrong of Galveston, IN, Hilda (Randell) Sparks of Odon, Vonda Wise of Newberry and Connie (Alvin) Cook of Silver Lake; two sons, Ivan (Charlotte) Long of Elnora and Vernon (Priscilla) Long of Holt, MI; nineteen grandchildren; forty-six great-grandchildren and fourteen great-great-grandchildren.
Doris was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Harden Long; brother, Darrell Swayze and sister, Georgia Heshelman.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Odon First Christian Church with Richard Crabtree officiating. Interment will follow in Walnut Hill Cemetery in Odon.
Family and friends may call at the church on Wednesday, January 7 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Thursday, January 8 from 9:00 AM until the hour of service at 11:00 AM.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be made in memory of Doris to Odon First Christian Church New Building Fund. Envelopes will be available at the church.
The family has entrusted all arrangements to James W. Meng, Jr. and the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonpoindexter.com.
