Edgar E. 'Gene' Meng, 79, of Sullivan, Indiana, passed from this life peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Terre Haute. He was born on November 23, 1938 in Sullivan County, Indiana to Edgar Lee and Iva L. (Clark) Meng. Gene married his loving wife, Mary Josephine (Thompson) Meng on March 8, 1967.

Gene was a member of the Carlisle First Christian Church. He worked hard as a farmer until he retired in 1990. Gene enjoyed fishing, mowing and especially spending time with friends and family.

Survivors include: his wife, Jo Meng; two sons, Mike Meng of Illinois and Tim (Kim) Meng of Sullivan; one daughter, Diana (Stephen) Slade of Sullivan; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Patricia Christison of Spencer and Carolyn Maxey of Sullivan.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, James and William 'Bill' Meng.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM on Friday, December 15, 2017 at Carlisle First Christian Church, Carlisle, Indiana with Billy Sam Phegley officiating. Gene will be laid to rest in Merom Cemetery.

Family and friends may call from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM on Friday at the church.
