Garland R. Gentry, 93, of Linton, IN, passed from this life on Wednesday, November 12, 2014, at his residence, surrounded by his family. He was born in Tackanight, MN, on March 30, 1921, to William L., Sr. and Ruth (Pierson) Gentry. Garland married his first wife, Ruby Dellinger, in 1944, and she preceded in death. Garland married his second wife, Donna K. Dalton, in 1970, and she, also, preceded in death.
Garland was a WWII veteran who served in the US Army and was later employed at the Crane Ammunition Depot. He later started the Daviess County Equipment business, which he owned and operated for 18 years and retired in 2010. He was an avid supporter of Right to Life and the Pregnancy Care Center in Daviess County. Garland enjoyed traveling and spending time with his dog, Angel, and his family.
Survivors include one son, Randy Gentry and one daughter, Linda (Ron) Drew, both of Linton; 4 step-sons: Brad (Michelle) Rainey, Scott (Brenda) Rainey, Don (Karen) Rainey and Brian (Lori) Rainey all of Washington; 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson; two brothers: Robert 'Bob' (Mary) Gentry of Columbus and John L. 'Jack' (Marilyn) Gentry of Bloomington and a sister: Dorothy Stremming of Westphalia.
Garland was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters: Catherine L Clifford, Marjorie H. Bell and Miriam "Ede" Byers; and two brothers: Cecil Lowell Gentry and William L. 'Bill' Gentry, Jr.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, November 14, 2014, at the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton at 10:30 AM, with Pastor Vernon Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in Sugarland Memory Gardens in Washington, IN.
Friends may call at Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton, IN, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, November, 13, 2014, and from 9:00 AM until the hour of service at 10:30 AM on Friday, November 14.
Military Graveside Services will be provided by American Legion Post #121 of Washington, IN.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Southern Care Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel of Linton.
