Obituary

George E. Stuppy, 84, of Jasonville, Indiana, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2008, at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. Born in Greene County, Indiana, on May 19, 1924, he was the son of Albert and Julia (Watkins) Stuppy. George married Lela M. (Mason) on February 9, 1945 and they had four children, she passed away April 17, 1988. He later married Deloris M. (Baize) Mayfield.

George was a coal miner for 33 years working in the area mines and later as a janitor for Linton-Stockton Elementary School, retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Deloris M. Stuppy; daughters, Mildred "Polly" Griffith of Jasonville and Julie C. Stetter of Linton; sons, Kenneth Edward Stuppy of Plainfield and Charles Stuppy of Dugger; step-sons, Richard Mayfield of Linton, Gary Mayfield of Mt. Pleasant, MI, Michael Mayfield of Jasonville and Dale Mayfield of Meca, TX, Estelle C. Mayfield, Jr. of Portmouth, OH; step-daughters, Thresa Bailey and Gloria Jean Boyles, both of Linton; a sister, Mary Ellen Crosley of Indianapolis; 19 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

George was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and eleven brothers and sisters.

Friends may call at the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel on Monday, May 26, 2008 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and from 9:00 AM on Tuesday until the hour of service. Recital of Rosary will take place at 7:00 PM Monday evening at the Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 AM Tuesday, May 27, 2008 with Rev. David Fleck officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.
