Grace Ellen (Lawson) Shepherd, 93, of Washington, IN, and formerly of Linton, passed away Friday, August 15, 2008, at Prairie Village in Washington. Born in Parke County, Indiana, on February 5, 1915, she was the daughter of George and Minnie Ellen (Glass) Lawson. She married Melvin W. Shepherd on November 14, 1935, and they had two daughters. She was a homemaker and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. She had also attended First Baptist Church and New Covenant Church both in Linton.

Survivors include six grandchildren: Trish (Pierce) Astleford of Sandborn, IN, Kim Griffith and Elizabeth Kuehn both of Linton, IN, Cindy Rudishauser of Sister, OR, Steve Ross of Morristown, IN, and Lin Wheeler of Indianapolis, IN. Six great grandchildren: Desiree and Hannah Sullivan, Alyvea Spainhower, Ayrin Astleford, Levi Kuehn, Ryan Wheeler, and a sister, Minnie Ford of Greenfield, IN, also survive.

Grace was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Melvin, two daughters, Patricia J. Pierce Hunsinger and Iris Wilmington, five brothers and four sisters.

The family has requested memorial contributions to be made to a "charity of your choice."

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, August 21, 2008, at Fairview Cemetery in Linton, IN, with Rev. Dean Hartman officiating.

There will be no viewing. Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
