Obituary

Hubert Eugene McAtee, 92, of Linton, born Jan. 25, 1923, ended his earthly journey Thurs. morning, June 18, 2015.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 yrs., Nora Mae (Miller) McAtee, on June 28, 2010.  Also preceding in death were his parents, Anna Nancy (Hale) & Thomas David McAtee, and brothers, David E. McAtee & Robert Kramer.


Hubert is loved and missed by two daughters, Merrilee (Robert) Shelton of Carrollton, TX and Marsha (John) Richards of Linton; two sons, Wes McAtee of Bloomington and John (Ruth) McAtee of Cedar Hills, UT;  13 grandchildren: Rob Shelton, Barry (Amber) Shelton, Tara Shelton, Ben (Kristen) Shelton, Chris (Rachell) Richards, Mike (Stacy) Richards, Bryan (Janni) Richards, Aaron Richards, Elisa Parker, Joni McAtee, Jesse (Danielle) McAtee, Josh McAtee & Dan McAtee; 19 great-grandchildren: Xander, Landon, Collin & Quinn Shelton, Ashley, Jarrett & Emma Richards, Joey Taylor, Katelyn, Sophie & Callie Richards, Natalie, Chandler, Brandon & Andrea Richards, Shane & Sara Parker, Miles Burger, Aaiden Richards; and 2 great-great-grandsons. Mason & Brantley Richards.  He will also be missed by long-time family friend Diana (Dan) Lahmann of Linton and his best friend, Fred (June) Harlan, who arranged for and was his "guardian" on one of Hubert's greatest experiences ever – flying to Washington D.C. with "Indy Honor Flight" in 2012, along with other WWII Veterans, to be honored at the National WW II Memorial.


For his sacrifices in Germany during World War II, Hubert was awarded the Purple Heart, (military decoration for being wounded in battle).


Hubert worked 35 yrs. at Crane Naval Ammo Depot and retired in 1978. He was an artist and loved fishing, bike riding, being outdoors, working in the yard, and helping his neighbors.  Most of all, he loved being with family.


Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am, Wed., June 24, 2015, at the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton, with friends calling from 9:00 am until 11:00 am.  Hubert will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery in Linton with full military honors provided by the American Legion Post #22.
