Obituary

Jack Kress, 96, of Bedford, Indiana, formerly of Linton, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2008 at his residence. He was born on October 25, 1911, in Clay City to Burlington and Sue (Melton) Kress. On August 5, 1938, he married Anna G. Baker.

Jack was a coal miner for 43 years and a dragline operator at Peabody Coal Company. He was a member of Saron United Church of Christ in Linton where he served on the board, Masonic Lodge #560 F & AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, Zorah Shrine, Greene Co. Shrine Club where he served as club president twice, member of the Tin Lizzies and Elks BPO #866.

Survivors include his wife, Anna G. Kress, two sons, Jack Alan (Donna Jean) Kress of Bedford and Tom Kress of Montecito, CA and one grandson, Curtis Wade Kress of Bedford. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson David Alan Kress, one brother and one sister.

For those who wish to make a memorial contribution, the family has named the Saron United Church of Christ. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Friends may call at Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, January 9, 2008 and from 9 AM until the hour of service on Thursday. Masonic memorial services will be held on Wednesday at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, January 10, 2008, with Rev. Michael Roth officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton, IN.
