March 4, 1923 – May 31, 2015
James D. Ashcraft, 92, of Linton, Indiana, went to Heaven peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, May 31st, 2015 at Greene County General Hospital in Linton. He was born on March 4th, 1923 in Greene County, Indiana to Luther Doran and Mary (Pribble) Ashcraft. James married Elvedia R. Burris on March 16th, 1946.
James was a US Army WWII veteran and was a member of the First Church of God and NARFI. He was employed at Crane as a supply distributor before his retirement. James liked visiting and greeting people and was active in the Tuesday morning men's prayer breakfast. He enjoyed gardening and flowers.
Survivors include: one son, Jerry (Ronette) Ashcraft of Slaughters, KY; one daughter, Linda (Steve) Bown of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Dana (Don) Smith of Clinton, Patricia (David) Guinn of Brazil, Carrie (Brian) Wolf of Sebree, KY, Michael (Misty) Ashcraft of Providence, KY, Vickie Meredith of Madisonville, KY and great-grandchildren, Brianna, Kyndell, Kyle, Ashland, Jacob, Tristen, Logan and Coral.
James was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Elvedia Ashcraft; two brothers, Dorsey and Dana 'Red' Ashcraft and one sister, Amy Ethel Ashcraft.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM on Friday, June 5th, 2015 at Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton with Pastor Nick Moore officiating. James will be laid to rest in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Lyons following a military graveside service.
Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, June 4th and from 9:00 AM until the hour of service at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 5th.
