James E. Mathena, 83, of Linton, IN, passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2012, at the Linton Nursing and Rehab Facility. He was born on September 21, 1928, to Harley and Helen (Barnett) Mathena. On June 6, 1947, James married Betty L. (Hagerty) and they adopted two children.

James served in the US Army and is a Korean War Veteran. He was an operator/installer for Propane Gas Company and also worked as a custodian at Peoples Trust Co. Bank. James was a member of the Linton Assembly of God Church and he dearly loved the Lord and his church family.

Survivors include his wife: Betty L. Mathena of Linton; one son: Dennis Mathena; one daughter: Becky (Derrick) Jackson, both of Linton; grandchildren: Tishia, Brett and Dayne Mathena, Alishia and Ericka Jackson; one great grandson: Boston Soncrant; and one sister: Ruth Cooksey of Paducah, KY.

James was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jack Mathena and one sister, Clara Auberry.

The family has requested those who wish may give a memorial contribution to the Linton Assembly of God Church with envelopes available at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton, IN at 11:00 AM, with Rev. David Atkins officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Linton with Military Graveside Rites provided by the American Legion Post #22.

Friends may call at Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, July 16, 2012 and from 9:00 AM until the hour of service on Tuesday.
