James R. Petty III DD, 66, of Evansville, IN, went to Heaven on Monday, November 11, 2013, at University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, KY. He was born on September 22, 1947 in Terre Haute, IN to James R. Petty, Jr. and Elizabeth Ann Gilmour Petty. James married Emma L. Matthews on December 24, 1966.
James was a member of Crossroads Christian Church. He served with various charitable organizations including Open Arms Christian Ministries, Lions Club, Richland Volunteer Fire Dept., Dean at Camp Illiana and Ministerial Alliance. James served as a minister for 43 years and was a registrar for MasterA's International School of Divinity for the past 6 years. His hobbies were golfing, sports and attending his grandchildrenA's sporting events and he enjoyed spending times with family and friends. He spent special time with his brother and sister-in-law on every possible occasion.
Survivors include: his wife, Emma Petty; daughter, Sonya (Donnie) Stanifer of Jasonville, IN; one son, James A'RobA' (Joanie) Petty of Santa Claus, IN; grandchildren, Ethan, Morgan, Gavin, Daelyn Stanifer, Jostyn Petty and Bridget Shulz; one great-grandson, Damon; one brother, Joe (Marty) Petty of Terre Haute, IN and cousin, Donnie (Terri) Donnelly of Terre Haute, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Crossroads Christian Church Choir in Evansville, IN. Envelopes will be available at the church.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at the Linton First Christian Church, located at 9878 W. St. Rd. 54 in Linton, Indiana, with Rod Hoschouer, Archie Elliott, Randy Allison and Stan Hoffman officiating.
Interment will follow in the Bethesda Cemetery in West Terre Haute at 3:00 PM.
Family and friends may call at the Linton First Christian Church from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Friday and from 9:00 AM until the hour of service on Saturday. All times listed are Eastern Standard (Indiana) Time.
The family has entrusted all funeral arrangements to Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton, IN.
