Obituary

Janine 'Jan' Nierste Pitcher, 60, of Bloomfield, formerly of Sandborn, IN, passed away on Monday, September 30, 2013 at the IU Health Hospice in Bloomington, IN. She was born in Vincennes, IN on January 10, 1953 to Frank and Mary Katherine (Warner) Nierste. Jan married John R. Pitcher on August 19, 1977.

Jan was a member of the Salem United Church of Christ in Westphalia, IN; she was a Coordinator of Citizen's for a Drug Free Gibson County, a member of Order of Eastern Star in Lawrence, IN, member of the Gold Prospector's of America, the Lost Dutchman's Mining Association. Jan was a loving wife and homemaker, she was a foster parent for several years in Gibson County, IN and she found enjoyment and pride in her job with the Gibson County Ambulance Service in Princeton where she worked for over 13 Years. Jan and John enjoyed a life of RVing and Prospecting for Gold.

Survivors include: her husband: John of Bloomfield; one Special foster daughter: Lori L. Welch of Owensville, IN; three grandchildren: Christopher J. Welch, Amber K. Welch and Kimberly L. Welch; one great-grandchild: Heidi Janine Welch; Niece: Denisa K. (Mark) Wineinger of Poland, IN; Nephews: Dale Aaron (Suzie) Hartsburg of Bicknell, IN, Daniel Adam Hartsburg of Bloomington, IN and Brian F. (Leah) Jordan of Ohio; cousins: Judy Yagle, Jackie McKee, Dick Nierste and Heather A. (Cory) Earhart, a special cousin that she considered her niece, of Bicknell and several great and great-great nieces and nephews who she considered as children and brought her great joy. Two brothers-in-law: Tom Jordan of Ft. Myers, FL and Dewey Hartsburg of Freelandville, IN also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two Sisters, Karolyn K. Nierste Jordan and Darlene D. Nierste Hartsburg

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Salem United Church of Christ in Westphalia. Contribution envelopes will be available at the church.

Funeral Services will be held at the Salem United Church of Christ in Westphalia, IN at 11:00 am on Friday, October 4, 2013 with Pastor Bryan Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in the Sandborn Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the church on Thursday, October 3, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm and on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of service.

The family has entrusted Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel with the arrangements.
