John A. Poetzinger, Jr., 84, of Bloomington, IN, formerly of Sullivan, passed away Friday, July 12, 2013, at IU Health in Bloomington. Born in Chicago, IL, on March 10, 1929, he was the son of John A. Poetzinger, Sr. and Clarissa (DuBois). On September 3, 1949, he took Betty J. (Tuech) to be his wife.
John was a member of the St. Peter Catholic Church and a veteran of the US Army Air National Guard. He was employed by IBM where he worked as a Special Products Marketing Representative. John retired in 1984 after 29 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Betty J. Poetzinger; four children: Gail (Paul) Schiffino of Bloomington, IN, Steven (Karen) Poetzinger of Pittsboro, NC, Ruth (John) Hayes of Bloomington, IN, and Philip (Janet) Poetzinger of Cary, NC; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Poetzinger, and a brother, Lawrence Poetzinger, both of Chicago, IL.
John was preceded in death by his parents, a son, John Andrew Poetzinger, III, and a brother, David Poetzinger. The family has requested memorial contributions be made to Aspire of Illinois, which is an organization that provides services for children & adults with developmental disabilities. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at the St. Peter Catholic Church in Linton, with Rev. Michael Madden officiating. Interment will follow at the Linton Fairview Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, July 16, 2013.
