John W. Sheffler, 93, of Huntington, IN, passed from this life at Norwood Health & Rehab in Huntington, IN, on Thursday, February 23, 2017.  He was born in Sullivan County on April 19, 1923, to Walter and Margaret (Armstrong) Sheffler.

John was a US Navy WWII veteran. He was a member of the Dugger Church of Christ and the Danville Church of Christ, and was a lifetime member of the Dugger American Legion Post #224. John was an Educator at Linton, Sandborn and Dugger schools, retiring in 1986. In his leisure time, he enjoyed playing golf and he truly enjoyed both playing and singing music.

Survivors include: his spouse, Barbara E. Sheffler; three sons, John K. (Annette Peterson) Sheffler of FL, Daniel A. (Julie) Sheffler of TN, and Brian S. (Lorraine) Sheffler of Indianapolis; a daughter, Jane (Jeffrey) Witt of Huntington, and daughter-in-law, Esther Sheffler of Linton; fourteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by: his parents and a son, SPC William Frederick Sheffler.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 4, 2017, at Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton.  John will be laid to rest in the Dugger Cemetery in Dugger, IN, with Military Graveside Rites provided by Dugger American Legion Post #224.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, March 3, 2017, and from 10:00 AM until the hour of service at 11:00 AM on Saturday at the funeral home.
