Joseph R. 'Joe' Mason, 88, of Lyons formerly of Linton, Indiana, passed away, surrounded by his loved ones on Sunday, December 24, 2017 in Lyons. Joe was born on April 7th, 1929 in Linton, Indiana to William and Bertha (Burch) Mason.

He started his career serving on the USS Samuel B. Roberts, DD823 in US Navy for nearly 3 years. He then continued his career at Crane Naval Base as an Explosive Detonator with 37 total years of service before retiring in 1985.

Family members surviving Joe are: his two daughters, Rita (Ken) Diehl of Michigan; Teressa Jo (Rick) Page of Linton; ten grandchildren April Fifer, Wendy Schick, Paul Chapman, John Yoder, Kaleb Hall, Lacey Peach, Levi Hall, Kelsea Nichols, Mindy Brown and Eric Page. Three sisters, Betty Martindale, Hazel Fiscus both Jasonville and Rebecca Jacobshagan of Linton.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, beloved sister Ann Mounier and niece Zina Bennett and brother Roy Mason.

A graveside service is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Scotland Cemetery in Scotland, Indiana with Brother Jonathan Heard officiating. There will be no public calling or visitation.
