Joyce Banker Stanton, 87, of Linton, Indiana, formerly of DeMotte, Indiana, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones in her home, on Tuesday, March 22, 2016. She was born on December 20, 1928 in Gary, Indiana to John and Rose (Betz) Banker. Joyce became the wife of David R. Stanton on August 18, 1951.
Joyce was a graduate of Emerson High School in Gary and received a Bachelor's Degree at Indiana University in Bloomington before earning a Master's Degree in Education from Purdue University. She was a teacher for 30 years in the Gary and Merrillville Public Schools before her retirement. She was a past president of Delta Kappa Gamma International, RHO chapter, Lake County Cultural Arts Association, Alpha Xi Delta Alumnae Association, Northwest Indiana Chapter and HUB Homemakers in Crown Point.
Family members that survive are: one son, David A. (Glenda) Stanton of Lafayette; one daughter, Kathryn S. (Donald) Ingle of Linton; ten grandchildren, David L. Stanton of Nashville, TN, Daniel Stanton of Lafayette, Bradley A. Lister of Lantana, FL, Kevin M. (Lori) Lister of Crothersville, IN, Craig M. (Megan) Lister of Whitestown, IN, Hannah E. (Sean) James of Kingsland, GA, Nathan P. (Erin) Lee of Folkston, GA, Adam J. Lee of Ambrose, GA and Martha R. Lee of Linton; twelve great-grandchildren, Zachary Lister, Noah Lister, Katy James, Cullen James, Chloe-Rose James, Connor James, Carrick James, Clara James, Lucy Lee, Lauren Lee, Alice Lee and Kian Swan.
Joyce was preceded in death by: her husband, David R. Stanton; her parents; a grandson, Aaron J. Lee; a brother, Warren E. Banker; two sisters, Kathryn Andrews and Phyllis Wunderlich.
There will be no public viewing or funeral service.
All arrangements have been entrusted to James W. Meng, Jr. and the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonpoindexter.com.
