Mary Eugenia 'Genie' Bowers, 84, of Linton, Indiana, passed peacefully from this life with family by her side on Wednesday, August 13, 2025. She was born on February 28, 1941, in Beech Grove, Indiana to Rev. James J. and Geneva (Wortman) Boyle. Genie married the love of her life, Ronald L. Bowers, on October 28, 1961.
Genie was a member of the Linton First Christian Church and a volunteer with the Salvation Army. She also belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #150, where she was a past Worthy Matron. Genie worked as an insurance agent for 35 years, serving many families in the area.
Family left to cherish the memories of Genie include her beloved husband, Ron Bowers; son, Jeffrey Loren Bowers of Gainesville, TX; eight grandchildren, Shan Michael (Kayla) Bowers, Kailee Bowers, Kyle Reed, Katie Reed, Clifton Bowers, Savannah (Matt) Lowry, Abby Peters, and Veronica Bowers; thirteen great-grandchildren, Maddox Ray Bowers, Mya Jane Bowers, Gavin James Daugherty, Jaden Joe Daugherty, Leon Bowers, Mary Bowers, Zolabelle Bowers, Carson Peters, Cadence Peters, Lezly Lowry, Alyxa Lowry, Charlie Lowry, and Nolan Lowry; sister, Virginia Mitcher of Muncie and brother, Joseph Boyle of Kokomo.
Genie was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Michael Shan Bowers; and two great-grandchildren, Isabella Grace Bowers and Gary Loren Bowers.
Funeral services honoring the life of Genie will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Anderson-Poindexter Chapel in Linton with Nick Moore officiating. Genie will be laid to rest in Prairie Chapel Cemetery in Lyons.
Family and friends may call from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.
