February 1, 1918 – August 17, 2015
Melvin S. Brown, 97, of Linton, IN, passed from this life to Heaven peacefully in his sleep on Mon., Aug. 17, 2015, at the Linton Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He was born on Feb. 1, 1918, in Clay County, IN, to Henry Louis and Alice Emma (Schafer) Brown. On May 30, 1943, Melvin married Mercedes E. Liechty who preceded him in death on Feb. 10, 1990.
Melvin was a farmer and Co-Owner of Twindale Farms, Inc. He was a Purdue Ag Alumni and a former Director of the White River Valley Feeder Auction. He served as a deacon of the Linton Assembly of God Church, where he was a member for many years. Melvin was a hard-working and Godly gentleman, as well as, a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather; he was a friend to all who knew him.
Survivors include: a son, Marco (Katherine) Brown of Linton, IN; two daughters, Cherylle Upp and Tana (Jim) Fox, both of Terre Haute, IN; four grandsons: Shawn (Christine) Brown, Jeremy (Jennifer) Brown, Nathan (Jenna) Brown, and Jesse Fox; five great-grandchildren: Dawson, Carson, Neely, Justin & Corinna Brown; a sister, Imogene (Earl) Yegerlehner of Clay City, IN, and a sister-in-law, Mary Kay Brown of Brazil, IN. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Melvin was preceded in death by: his wife, Mercedes Brown; his parents; a brother, Ralph Brown; two infant brothers; and a son-in-law, Kenny Upp.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Thurs., Aug. 20th, 2015, at 11:00 AM, at the Linton Assembly of God Church, with Rev. David Atkins officiating. Melvin will be laid to rest in the Fairview Cemetery in Linton.
Family and friends may call at the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wed., Aug. 19th, 2015, and from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM at the Linton Assembly of God Church on Thurs., Aug. 20th.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Linton Assembly of God Church or Great Lakes Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
