Merry E. Barnett, 99, of Linton, Indiana, went to Heaven with family by her side on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at Linton. She was born on February 2, 1925, in Linton to William Dione and Edna Ellen (Baker) Harrell. Merry became the wife of Alfred L. Barnett on April 2, 1944.

Merry was a member of the Linton Church of Christ. She was a schoolteacher for Linton-Stockton Elementary School and retired in 1991 after touching many lives during her years of teaching. Merry enjoyed reading and traveling.

Family left to cherish the memory of Merry include: one son, Mark Barnett of Linton; one daughter, Cheryl Schmelzer of Tallmadge, OH; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one sister, Jean Cullison of Linton.

Merry was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfred Barnett; four brothers, David, Bill, Joe and Donald Harrell; three sisters, Betty Geatches, Jane Dickerson and Ann Tucker.

Funeral services to honor the life of Merry will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 28, 2024 at Anderson-Poindexter Chapel in Linton with Bro. Nick Moore officiating. Merry will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery in Linton.

Family and friends may call from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Sunday, October 27 and from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM on Monday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Linton Church of Christ. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
