Reba Fae Gillan, age 92, of Linton, IN, passed from this life early Sunday morning, September 18, 2016. She was born in Lyons, IN, on July 1, 1924, the daughter of Raymond and Mae (Grounds) McKee. On November 9, 1946, Reba became the wife of Robert G. 'Bob' Gillan.
Reba was a member of the Linton First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed keeping busy and at an early age began working for her father, on the family farm raising dairy cattle and in the hardware store. After marrying, she and her husband, Bob, owned and operated the Linton Western Auto store on north Main Street. Reba was the eldest downtown merchant still living. She retired in 1985, after 31 years of service at Western Auto. Reba enjoyed garage sales and never met a stranger. She was a genuine friend and caring lady who will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Reba is survived by her son, Kenny (Beth) Gillan and daughter, Kathy M. (Johnny) Howell, both of Linton; 4 grandchildren: Micheal Eric Gerdts, Lorie Ann Soots, Bryce Robert Gillan, and Blaine Ray Gillan; and three great-grandchildren: Jetta Fae Gerdts, Jager Rose Gerdts, and Paisley Rae Gillan. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Reba was preceded in death by: her husband, Bob Gillan, and a brother, Bill McKee.
The funeral service will be held at the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel on Thurs., Sept. 22, 2016, at 11:00 AM with Rev. Jim Gentry and Rev. Michael Irvine officiating. Reba will be laid to rest in the Linton Fairview Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Wed., Sept. 21, 2016, and from 10:00 AM on Thur., Sept. 22, 2016, until the hour of service. Memorial contributions can be made to the Linton First United Methodist Church and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
