Obituary

Richard Eugene Talley, 90, of Vestal, New York, and formerly of Greene County, IN, passed away on July 6, 2011. He was born on April 27, 1921 to Everett Russell and Irena Bernett (Holliday) Talley. Richard was married to Vivian Jeanne (Goodman) Talley.

Richard graduated from Worthington High School in 1939. He enlisted in the US Army after high school and served honorably in the 57th Signal Battalion. He received the Purple Heart in combat during World War II. An inventor at heart, he was responsible for innovation in communications during the war and other innovations that aided in heavy truck manufacturing during the career at General Motors.

Richard was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; he served in various teaching and leadership capacities with the church, including a temple mission with his eternal companion at the Washington, D.C. LDS Temple. His love of the Savior has been deep and abiding. As an avid genealogist, his love of family extended for several generations back in time.

Survivors include his son, Gregory (Susan) Talley of Vestal, NY; five grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Vivan Talley, son, Richard Mark Talley, daughter, Kimberly Jeanne Talley and great-granddaughter, Kimberly Brooke Talley.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at 7:00 PM at the Binghamton Ward Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 305 Murray Hill Rd., Vestal, NY. Interment will be held at the Fairview Cemetery in Linton, IN at a later date.

Local funeral arrangements are being handled by Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton, IN.
