Robert K. Benthimer, 66 of Linton, IN, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2014. He was born on September 23, 1947 in Evansville, IN to William and Bernice (Baker) Benthimer. He married Sandra L. Singleton on December 20, 1984.
Bob was a member of the Jimmy Swaggart Ministries Media Worship Center. He was a seaman working on the Great Lakes and Ohio River at the age of 17. Bob retired as a heavy equipment mechanic. Coal mining and coal mining equipment was his passion.
Bob was a very passionate man about music and wrote numerous songs; always with a pen and paper, writing down a verse or two, no matter where he happened to be He played the guitar, banjo, mandolin and harmonica. His love of History, Civil War and all animals, he passed on to Payton. He was a tender and generous man to all. He suffered great physical pain, but never complained. When remembering, think of Bob riding his Harley and the joy and freedom it gave to him, the pain forgotten while on the road. He will be greatly missed by all, but NEVER forgotten.
Survivors include: his wife, Sandra Benthimer; one son, Charles Robert (Bobbi Jo) Benthimer of Shelbyville; two daughters, Elizabeth Benthimer-Rigg of Evansville and Angela Benthimer (Mick Jackson) of Henderson, KY; step-son, Gary (Marybeth) Clark of Brazil; grandchild whom they raised, Payton Lea Borders (Joseph Champion) of Lyons; grandchildren, Brandi Clark of Spencer, Brittany Benthimer, Charles 'C.J.' Benthimer, both of Shelbyville, Dalton Borders, Angela Borders of Evansville area, Bailey Benthimer, Erin Benthimer of Henderson, KY and Cody Gadberry, serving in the military; great-grandson, Silas James Clark of Spencer; one brother, William (Linda) Benthimer of Newburgh and two sisters, Bonnie (Dana) Hart of Tennyson and Claudia (Doug) Campbell of Cary, NC; brother-in-laws, Billy (Evelyn) Singleton and Eddie (Tina) Singleton, both of Linton; sister-in-laws, Judy (Robert) Chalfont of Fairfax, VA, Carol (Ralph) Fulford and Rhonda Tharp, both of Linton; Wadess 'Red' Carpenter, close longtime friend and co-worker, of Bicknell and Dane Shelton, close friend and neighbor, of Linton.
Bob was preceded in death by: his parents and great-granddaughter, Payton Lea Champion.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be made in Bob's memory to Riley Children's Hospital or Jimmy Swaggart Ministries.
Services will follow at a later date.
