Robert V. Martin, 80, of Linton, IN formerly of Sandborn, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2008, at Monroe Hospital in Bloomington. He was born in Sandborn, Indiana on December 6, 1927 to Samuel S. and Mildred O. (Crane) Martin. On December 18, 1948, he married Enid Rose Trent.
Robert was a Sergeant in the US Army. Later he was a dragline operator for Amax for 29 years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the St. Peter Church in Linton.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Martin; two daughters, Dana (Tom) Jeffers of Terre Haute and Melinda (Rich) Johnson of Lyons; two sons, Tony Martin of Worthington and J.D. (Flo) Martin of Loogootee; and one sister, Vera Inman of Vincennes; also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Leah Jo Hartsburg.
Friends may call at Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel from 6:00 to 9:00 PM, Friday, September 19, 2008. A brief prayer service will be offered at 6:30 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 20, 2008 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Linton with Rev. Hilary Vieck and Rev. Michael Madden officiating. Interment will follow at Sandborn Cemetery in Sandborn, with Military Graveside Rites.
The family has requested memorial contributions be made to St. Peter Food Bank. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
