Sperry David Davis, 86, of Linton, IN, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2013 at The Waters of Greencastle in Putnam County. He was born in Magnetic Springs, Ohio on September 14, 1927 to George William and Ivy May (Doubikin) Davis. Sperry married Kathleen T. Carpenter on March 31, 1971.

Sperry was a Veteran of the United States Navy, serving in WW II, Korea and the Vietnam Wars. He was awarded a Purple Heart and the Fleet Marine Force Combat Insignia. Sperry was also the recipient of a Letter of Commendation.

Sperry attended the Bethel Baptist Church and was a member of the Canyon Masonic Lodge # 13 F & AM and the Shriners of Utah

He was a Career US Navy Corpsman, also worked in Civil Service, retiring in 1982.

Survivors include: his wife: Kathleen; two sons: Sperry (Betsy) Davis, Jr. of Virginia and David (Terry) Davis of Linton; two daughters; Susan (Joe) Dellavecchio of Virginia and Frances Benton of Bloomington; Seven Grandchildren: Emily and Jennifer Davis, John Dellavecchio, Tammy Duncan, Michael Lacy, Katrina Davis, Michael Anthony Benton and Armondo Salvaty; great-grandchildren: John and Ava Dellavecchio, Conner Thompson and Hank Lacy; special caregivers: Wendy Cook and Netta Bell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Jennifer lacy; three Brothers and one sister.

The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Bethel Baptist Church. Envelopes will be available at the cemetery or contributions can be made at the funeral home.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at the Fairview Cemetery in Linton with Pastor Doug Cassel officiating. Interment will follow the service. Full military honors will be provided at the graveside by the American Legion Post #22.

A public viewing will not be held, but all are welcome to attend the graveside services.
