Sylvia J. Alkire, 85, of Linton, went to be with Jesus on Saturday, July 21, 2013 surrounded by her family at her residence. She was born on June 19, 1928 in Greene County, Indiana to Huddie and Verna May Ellis Goodman. She married Donovan R. Alkire on October 14, 1949.

Sylvia was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Linton. She worked as a hairdresser for many years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandma and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by: her husband, Don; one daughter: Donna (Larry) Pletch of Linton; three grandchildren: D'Lee (Mike) Wentz of Linton, Josh (Deanna) Hubbell of Terre Haute, Jordon Pletch of Linton; four great-grandchildren: AnneVictoria, Jordan, Kaitlynne and Kaileigh and one sister, Sharon Christmas of Princeton, IN.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents.

The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Gideon Bibles. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton with Rev. Jim Cooper officiating. Interment will follow at Burris Chapel, south of Linton.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, July 23 and from 11:00 AM until hour of service on Wednesday.
