Obituary

Terry C. "Chico" Gentry, 63, of Linton, IN, passed away Friday, December 16, 2011, at his residence in Linton, IN. He was the first baby born in Knox County on January 1, 1948, to Cecil L. and Lorene F. (Stremming) Gentry. Terry married Veronica Roach on June 18, 1994.

Terry was a member of the Salem United Church of Christ in Westphalia, where he served on the council and held many positions there. Terry was a member of the Linton Chamber of Commerce and also played Santa in downtown Linton for several years. He owned The Shirt Rack, a retail sportswear and silk screen business in Linton. He had worked in the coal mine construction industry before starting his own business in the early eighties. Terry was afflicted as a baby with Polio and suffered through many surgeries and challenges. With courage and strength he managed to overcome his disabilities.

Survivors include his wife: Veronica Gentry of Linton; his mother, Lorene Gentry of Sandborn; one daughter, Meagan Gentry of Linton; one grandson, Jarrett Jayson Ford Nicholson of Linton; step-children, Zack (Randi), Amber, Alison Waggoner, Richie, Danielle and Stacey Chubb; step-grandchildren, Payton and Josie Ball; one brother, Jeff (Dolly) Gentry of Linton; nephew, James Gentry.

Terry was preceded in death by his grandparents and father, Cecil Gentry.

The funeral service will be Tuesday, December 20, 2011, at the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dick Smith officiating. Burial will follow at the Salem United Church of Christ Cemetery in Westphalia, IN.

Friends may call at Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, December 19, 2011, and from 9:00 AM until time of service on Tuesday.
