Velma R. Knowles, 90, of Linton, IN, passed away Monday, June 14, 2010 at Lyons Health & Living Community. She was born in Greene Co., Indiana to Erving M. and Bessie Mae (Padgett) Tincher on December 10, 1919. On December 3, 1936 she married John L. Knowles and they had three daughters.
Velma was a cook at area restaurants, retiring in 1963. She was a member of Pleasantville Baptist Church and Ladies Auxiliary VFW. Her hobbies included fishing and card playing.
Surviving are her two daughters, Marilyn Jean Souders and Shirley (Fred) Chamberlain and son-in-law, Lloyd Sisk, all of Linton; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Charles Tincher of Lyons and one sister, Annalee Hostetter of Worthington.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, Arretta Sisk, two grandchildren, three brothers and one sister.
Friends may call at the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 and from 9:00 AM until the hour of the service on Thursday. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 17, 2010 at the funeral home with Rev. Dwight Gould officiating. Interment will follow at Stafford Cemetery in Sandborn, IN.
