Vera Deane Barnard, 86, of Linton, Indiana, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2009, at Bloomington Hospital. Born in Linton, Indiana on September 19, 1922, she was the daughter of William R. and Pauline Glen (Plummer) Alkire.

She was the office manager at A & H Commission Co. and Basaloid Products, retiring in 1987.

Survivors include her two daughters, Patt Leroux of Lafayette and LaDeena (Jack) Cantrell of Linton; four grandchildren, Dean Leroux of Greensburg, Chris (Rhonda) Leroux of Lafayette, Kevin (Rebecca) Cantrell of Avon and Chad (Beth) Cantrell of Columbus. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Helen Coulomb.

The family has requested memorial contributions to be made to the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Friends may call at the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and from 9:00 AM until the hour of service on Thursday, June 11, 2009. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM at the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel with Pastor Doug Cassel officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.
