Obituary

Verne W. Bailie, 96, of Linton, Indiana, formerly of Indianapolis, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2008, at his residence. He was born on December 1, 1911, to William R. and Harriet E. (Laird) Bailie in Danville, Illinois. Isabelle Anice Nichols was Verne's first wife and after her death, he married a second time to Dora (Ellis) Wright.

Verne was a controller for the former Schwitzer-Cummins Company in Indianapolis and served as Treasurer of the Brookside Corporation in McCordsville. He was a Certified Internal Auditor, Institute of Internal Auditors (certified). He was a member of Bee Ridge Presbyterian Church of Sarasota, Florida, Brookside Masonic Lodge #720 F & AM (Past Master), Brookside Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, #481 (Past Patron) and Honorary DeMolay and Job's Daughter, Indianapolis Valley, Scottish Rite (Knight Templar), Chanters of Sahib Shrine Temple (Past President), a vocalist in opera, recital and church work, receiving a degree in Voice at Arthur Jordan Conservatory in Indianapolis. He was an Honorary Kentucky Colonel.

Survivors include his wife, Dora L. Bailie, a daughter, Judith J. (Bailie) Wynn of Lancaster, PA, a son, David M. Bailie of Noblesville, a step-son, Rex Wright of Indianapolis and a daughter-in-law, Angie Bailie of Lafayette, CA. He is also survived by six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Verne was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, a son, Dallas R. Bailie and a step-son, Gary Wright.

Services will be held in the chapel at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis on Thursday, April 17, 2008, at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the charity of your choice.
