Obituary

Violet 'Dolly' Madaline (Weaver) Roberts joined her Holy Father in Heaven on October 8th at 2:24 PM. She passed away peacefully in her home, cared for and comforted by her sisters, her children and her grandchildren. Violet celebrated her 93rd birthday two days prior to her passing.

Violet was born in Linton, Indiana on October 6th, 1922. She was the ninth child of thirteen born to Mary Alice (Miller) and Earl Ervin Weaver.

Violet grew up in a different time, she often marveled at all the changes she witnessed. Her father was a coal miner and her mother a homemaker. She was educated in small, one room school houses, mainly in the 'Jaybird' area of Linton. She enjoyed acquiring knowledge and was very fond of the multiple room school she attended briefly in Marco. She particularly enjoyed the science class that was offered there. While attending school, Violet, also helped her mother raise her younger siblings, as well as assist her father with the book keeping of his coal mining business. While in high school, she took multi-credit courses in business and graduated college at the South Bend School of Commerce. Violet worked as a private secretary for many businesses including Studebaker Aviation during WWII and twice for Crane Naval Base's Department of Transportation.

Violet married her husband, Richard L. Roberts on July 26, 1947. After the birth of their first son, an illness forced her to leave the workforce and she became a homemaker. She was a devout Christian and dedicated mother and wife. She was an attendant and a Sunday School teacher at the Assembly of God in Linton. Together, with her husband, she raised four children. Her family was very important to her, during her later years nothing brought her greater pleasure than to have her children and grandchildren gathered together. She would often say the greatest gift was to be surrounded by them and see them loving each other and enjoying each other's company.

Violet was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Richard; infant daughter, Katherine Pearl Roberts; two grandchildren, Jessica Roberts and Dylan Ludwig; five brothers and five sisters.

Survivors include: her children, Stephen (Sherry) Roberts of Cedar Lake, IN, Paul (Fran) Roberts of Whiting, IN, Karen (David) Fuller of Palestine, IL and Lisa (Jeff Ray) Roberts of Linton; her grandchildren, Gideon (Amanda) Roberts of Texas, Morgan Merriman of Cedar Lake, Christina (J.P. 'Buster' Moorefield) Thompson, Rebecca (Ryan) Jerrell, Michael Fuller and Ethan (Katie) Ludwig, all of Linton; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Betty Hale of Linton and Barbara (Richard) Harris of Granger and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the Emergency Dept. staff at Greene County General Hospital, the staff at Good Samaritan Hospital and Home Health Care, and Southern Care Hospice, especially Monica and Jamie.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel with Pastor Dick Smith officiating. Violet will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.
