Virgil Robert Bland, 71, of Linton, Indiana, went to Heaven peacefully with his family by his side, on Sunday, May 3rd, 2015. He was born on November 18th, 1943 in Linton to Virgil and Mary Louise (Gould) Bland. He married Bonnie J. Kirkley on April 27th, 1974.
Virgil was a US Navy Veteran and a member of Providence Baptist Church. He was the owner of Greene County Tire Co. until his retirement in 1987. Virgil enjoyed playing golf daily, mushroom hunting, fishing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He went on several mission trips where he enjoyed helping others and sharing love to all.
Survivors include: his wife, Bonnie Bland; two daughters, Michelle (Bill) Baxley of Carlisle and Debbie (Tom) Duncan of Evansville; one son, Nick Yoder (friend, Kelly Boone) of Sullivan; son by choice, Shane Bland of Indianapolis; seven grandchildren, Derrick, Ethan, Whitney, McKinley, Jonas, Zoe, Lilly and Alex; five great-grandchildren, Madison, Kynzee, Cooper, Mariah and Gunnar; one brother, Donald (Paula) Bland of Terre Haute and several nieces and nephews.
Virgil was preceded in death by: his parents; one grandson, Chad Baxley; three brothers, Dale, Jerry and Michael Bland and one sister, Mary Alexander.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 7th, 2015 at Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel with Pastor Darren McDonald officiating. Virgil will be laid to rest in the Fairview Cemetery following a military graveside service.
Family and friends may call from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, May 6th at the funeral home and from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 7th.
