Virginia O. Spaulding, 89, of Linton, IN, passed away Saturday, August 13, 2011, at Glenburn Nursing Home in Linton. She was born on February 17, 1922, in Greene County, IN, to William H. and Alice M. (Hubbard) Mullens. On November 20, 1966, she married Vernon LeRoy Spaulding.
Virginia was a waitress for 18 years at Bob Terrell's Restaurant in Worthington, IN; she was also employed at Ford Motor Company in Indianapolis, IN and worked at Crane Naval Weapons. She was a member of the Linton First Christian Church. Virginia was baptized in 1998 at the Faith Christian Church in Bloomfield, IN by her grandson, Mike Solliday.
Survivors include her daughter, Verna (John) Peterson of Terre Haute, IN; grandchildren, Johnny Solliday of Terre Haute and Michael (Martha) Solliday of Switz City, IN; great-grandchildren, Hope Nicole Wilner, Patricia Sue Solliday and Michael John Solliday, great-great grandchildren, Michael, Jordan and Elizabeth Robinson; nieces, Connie Grindle; and nephews, David Rawley, William Sisk, Kevin and Kenny Mullens.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Donald Burton; second husband, Vernon Spaulding (January 4, 1979); one son, Gilbert Burton; one grandson, Ronnie Burton; one sister, Elise Williams; one brother, Kenny Mullens and nephew, Jessie Sisk.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Linton First Christian Church with envelopes available at the church.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at the Linton First Christian Church with Warren Shake officiating. Burial will follow at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Indianapolis, IN. Friends may call from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Wednesday at the church.
The family has entrusted all funeral arrangements with Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton, IN.
