Obituary

William Edward Maddock Jr., 97, was born on May 2, 1919, in Sandborn, Indiana, to William and Josephine (Humrichouse) Maddock. He was a member of the Sandborn Christian Church, a graduate of Sandborn High School and enlisted in the Navy during World War II, where he served as metal shop supervisor on an aircraft training carrier in the Pacific. On December 11, 1948, he married Jacqueline McDonald and they were married for 60 years.


Bill was self-employed as a farmer, metal fabricator, highway road recycling contractor and he loved the Lord. Bill was a talented, self-taught guitarist and inventor. As one of his many inventions he created an early amphibious vehicle for Bus Lefevre to be able to access his flood-isolated farm ground, by welding a framework of air-filled barrels that fit onto Bus' pickup truck, he made it possible for the truck to either drive on solid ground or float across the water. Other of Bill's inventions include, the Hurrican Ditcher and the Road Recycler.


Bill is survived by his four children: daughter, Peggy (Bryan) Taylor of Westphalia; sons, Stephen Maddock of Lenexa, KS, David (Carrie) Maddock of Bloomington, IN and Kurt (Cindy) Maddock of Columbia, IL; nine grandchildren, Sarah (Stephen) Spellman of Birmingham, England, Emily Taylor of Princeton, IN, Gregory Maddock of Warsaw Poland, Caroline (Jeff) Nachem of Fredericksburg, VA, Simon Maddock of Norfolk, VA, Carli and Ben Maddock of Bloomington, IN, Laura Maddock and Haley (Ben) Ottolini of Waterloo, IL; two great-grandchildren, Eliana and Zev Nachem; several nieces and nephews also survive.


Bill was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Jacqueline and five older sisters.


Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 PM on Thursday, August 11, 2016, at the Salem United Church of Christ in Westphalia, IN, with Pastor Bryan Taylor officiating. Bill will be laid to rest in Salem Cemetery.


Family and friends may call at the Church from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 2:00 PM on Thursday.
