August 20, 1946 – April 4, 2015
William 'Bill' Freeman Meng, 68, of Terre Haute, IN, went peacefully to Heaven on April 4, 2015. He was born on August 20, 1946, in Sullivan, IN, to Edgar L. and Iva (Clark) Meng. Bill married Judith C. Stodghill on January 25, 1975.
Bill served our country in the US Army in Germany during the Vietnam War era. He later worked for Pfizer in maintenance and retired in 2005, after 35 years of service. Bill was a member of the North Terre Haute First Baptist Church and dearly loved his church family as they loved him. He was active with church mission trips and the church food pantry. He enjoyed watching cooking shows and English drama shows. Bill spent his free time walking, playing golf and shopping for antiques and bargains and spending quality time with his family.
Survivors include: his wife, Judy; one son, Benjamin Ryan (Denise) Meng of Indianapolis, IN; one daughter, Deborah Jean English of Terre Haute; 12 grandchildren; a brother, Edgar Eugene (Josephine) Meng of Sullivan; two sisters, Patricia Christison of Spencer and Carolyn Maxey of Sullivan; a sister-in-law, Nancy Smith of Maysville, KY; a brother-in-law, Herbert (Susan) Stodghill of Florence, KY; and several nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by: his parents and one brother, James Meng, Sr.
A memorial service is scheduled for 7:00 PM on Thursday, April 9, 2015, at the North Terre Haute First Baptist Church, with Pastor Mark Tobey officiating. The family is following Bill's wishes in cremation and burial will take place at a later date in Roselawn Cemetery.
Family and friends will gather to share memories on Thursday, April 9th, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, prior to the service, at the North Terre Haute First Baptist Church.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the North Terre Haute First Baptist Church food pantry, 2944 E. Hall Ave, Terre Haute, IN 47805. Envelopes will be available at the church.
All arrangements have been entrusted to James W. Meng, Jr. and the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonpoindexter.com .
