Obituary

William H. 'Bill' Phegley, 71, of Switz City, Indiana, went to be with his Heavenly Father and other family members while being surrounded by his loving family on March 5, 2014 at IU Health in Bloomington. He was born on March 4, 1943 in Switz City to Alpha A. Phegley, Sr. & Opal Pauline Robbins Phegley. Bill married his sweetheart, Betty J. Ferguson on June 15, 1968.

Bill was a US Army Vietnam Veteran. He retired in 1994 from the General Electric Linton Plant. Bill was a member of the Switz City Christian Church where he served as a deacon, American Legion Post #22, Switz City Masonic Lodge #676 F & AM, Board of Directors of Lyons, Marco and Switz City Veterans Memorial, Switz City Volunteer Fire Department and he loved coaching Babe Ruth Baseball.

Survivors include: his wife, Betty J. Phegley; two sons, James Douglas (Brenda) Phegley of Nineveh, IN and Jason William (Amanda) Phegley of Brownsburg, IN; one daughter, Shari Lynne Phegley of Connersville, IN; five grandchildren, Jake (Kendra) Phegley, Hannah Phegley, Chris (Lauren) Smith, Brock (Jennie) Smith and Samantha Smith; five great-grandchildren, Dalton Thompson, Trevor, Kenley, Jordan and Breck Smith; one brother, Junior Phegley of Grand Rapids, MI and two sisters, Ruth Horn of Springville, IN and Helen Anderson of Bloomfield, IN.

Bill was preceded in death by: his parents; six brothers, James Robbins, Jimmy, Earnest, Harold, Ronald and John Phegley and a great-granddaughter, Jade Smith.

For those who wish, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Switz City Christian Church or to the Veteran's Memorial of Lyons, PO Box 38, Lyons, IN 47443. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton with Chris Gehring officiating. Interment will follow in Prairie Chapel Cemetery in Newberry with full military honors.

Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the hour of service. A Masonic Memorial Service is scheduled for 7:00 PM on Friday at the funeral home.

The family has entrusted the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton with these arrangements.
