Barbara Hamm Obituary

Barbara Ann (Holleman) Hamm of Sandborn, IN answered her Lord’s call to return to Him on Thursday, July 25th, 2019 at the age of 80. She was greeted in heaven by her parents, James R. Holleman and Annie (Perry) Holleman and her son, Weldon L. Hamm, and many other friends and relatives. She leaves behind the love of her life and husband of 63 years, James I. Hamm; their son Robert L. and his wife Pam Hamm of Paxton; her daughter Cheryl Hamm and her husband Randy Wines, also of Sandborn; her two sisters, June (Holleman) Barnes and her husband Roger of Branson, MO and Sandra (Holleman) Jett of Richmond, VA. She had 6 grandchildren: John Robert (Robby) Hamm and his wife Amanda, of Lyons; Zevirah (Zev) Hamm and his wife Abby, of Bloomfield; Holden Hamm of Bradenton, FL; Sara Wines of Henryville; Linda Wines of Bloomington; and Randy L. Wines of Sandborn. Additionally, she leaves 4 great-grandchildren: Ryan, Brayden, Easten, and Oaklynn Hamm. She was deeply cared for and will be missed by her family and friends, but has left behind a legacy of joy, love, and commitment to kindness in all things.

Barbara was born on April 20th,1939 in Newport News, VA and was married to her sweetheart James Hamm on November 24th, 1955. She spent her years as a mother, homemaker, volunteer, and faithful partner. She was famous for the pizzas she made at the Townehouse Restaurant in Lyons, and managed the diets of hundreds of hungry folks at various nursing homes in the area. She loved gardening, cooking, canning, knitting, and crochet and placed high value on any work done by hand or with love. Barbara was a member of the Pleasantville United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and spent decades volunteering in her community. She was passionate about giving back, and in that spirit the family asks that a donation be made in Barbara’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in lieu of flowers.
