Berchel J. Helton, 68, of Linton, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2020 at Sullivan County Community Hospital. He was born on May 22, 1952 in Detroit, Michigan to Oscar and Thelma L. (Botkin) Helton. Berchel married his loving wife, Debra Ann (Yoder) Helton on March 25, 1988.

Berchel worked as a police officer for the Jasonville Police Department. He enjoyed gardening, playing any string instrument and fishing.

Loved ones left to cherish the memory of Berchel include: his wife, Debra Helton; sons, Glenn Helton, Thad Helton, Berchel J. (Brittany) Helton, Jr., all of Linton, Brandon Helton, Kyle Helton and Ronnie Helton, all of Jasonville; daughters, Stephanie Helton of Bedford and Melissa (Travis) Fulk of Linton; step-daughter, Ashley (Nathan) Michael of Linton; sixteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; sister, Anita Mae (Randy) Phegley of Shelburn; brothers, Kenneth (Starr) Helton of Nashville, IL and Garrett Helton of Shelburn.

Berchel was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services to honor the life of Berchel will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday, July 2, 2020 at Meng Family Funeral Homes, Anderson-Poindexter Chapel in Linton with Alan Borders officiating. Berchel will be laid to rest in Little Flock Cemetery in Shelburn.

Family and friends may call from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Thursday, July 2, 2020 at the funeral home.
