Carolyn A. Smith, 86, of Westphalia, Indiana, went to be with the lord on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Gentle Care of Vincennes. She was born on September 22, 1938, in Washington, Indiana to William and Heloise (VanVleet) Pepmeier. Carolyn married the love of her life, William Joseph Smith on May 27, 1962.

Carolyn was a member of the Salem United Church of Christ and the DAR Francis Vigo Chapter. She worked as a Home Economics teacher at Freelandville high-school and later worked as a substitute teacher at North Knox high-school.

Family left to cherish the memories of Carolyn include daughters, Lynn (Jim) Moore of Westphalia and Andrea (Dr. Frank) Spendal of Montezuma; sister, Janice Vaughn Horner of Crawfordsville; grandchildren, Kathryn Moore, Nicholas (Dr. Sabrina) Spendal, Megan Smith and William (Bethany) Smith; great-grandchild Maddison Moore and a baby girl on the way.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, William Joseph Smith and her beloved Joseph “Jody” Smith

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, October 21, 2024, at Salem United Church of Christ in Westphalia with Pastor Jesse Letourneau officiating. Carolyn will be laid to rest in Salem Cemetery in Westphalia.

Family and friends may call from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Monday, October 21, 2024, at Salem United Church of Christ in Westphalia.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salem United Church of Christ. Envelopes will be available at the church.
